Summary

Welcome to the Cornish Family Coast to Coast Challenge – an 180 miles cross country walk that will take us from St Bees, Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire. Mum, Dad, 5 kids (age 4 - 12 yrs old) and a grandad (72 and counting) will 'walk a mile in the shoes' of families who have been displaced through war, famine, fear or persecution. Over 16 days (come rain, shine or blisters), we will peak mountains, traverse valleys and hike through moor and woods. We’ll be raising money for refugee families who, unlike us, had no choice but to leave their homes – families just like ours and yours.

Our chosen charity, Refugee Action York (RAY), offer practical aid, emotional support and an open door to men, woman, children and families without discrimination. Hear their stories and follow our intrepid journey either online or by our side. In true British style, let us stand (or walk) together in welcoming our newest countrymen to England’s green and pleasant land.

About us

Peter 'Dad'

  • Age:  37
  • Interests:  Fixing things and keeping active.
  • Why I'm doing this:  Wanted to do the coast to coast but couldn't justify the time away.  I was delighted and surprised when my wife and kids said we could do it as a family.  I hope by the end of the hike, we will have had many of those fun family moments that create memories for life.

Sarah 'Mum'

  • Age: 41
  • Interests: Apart from kids, kids, kids, I enjoy solving all the worlds problems, writing my novel and hanging out with my O.A.P. girl friends.  They really have been there and done that.
  • Why I'm doing this: For me, it is all about the charity.  I wouldn't be climbing any mountains without it.  As a bonus, I am already losing weight and spending some much better family time outdoors where the sun shines.

Seth

  • Age: 12
  • Interests: Computer games, reading (The Maze Runner series, Hunger Games and Blade series) science, art and origami.
  • Why I'm doing this: Because it will be a fun adventure.

Tilda

  • Age: 11
  • Interests: Watching Michael McIntyre's Big Show, cooking, playing tag games and singing.
  • Why I'm doing this: It must be horrible for the families who've experienced war and had to leave their homes.  We are going to leave the comforts of home for only two weeks.  I hope this helps me understand them a bit better.

Harriet 'Harry'

  • Age: 9
  • Interests: Being a feminist, politics, singing, watching Britain's Got Talent and being cheeky.
  • Why I'm doing this: To get closer to my family and to help refugees.

Hannah-Elizabeth 'Lizzie'

  • Age: 7
  • Interests: Spanish and swimming at school and playing on the swing at home.
  • Why I'm doing this: I want to help raise money for refugees.

Esme 'Meme'

  • Age: 4
  • Interests: Playing on her kindle, watching Britain's Got Talent, and princesses and unicorns.
  • Why I'm doing this: Because I'm only 4 and I have to tag along.
